Dinkey Lakes Fishing Trip from July 24th - July 27th, 2018

Who: Everyone!

What: Overnight fishing trip at Dinkey Lakes.

- Scouts over 16 years old need to acquire fishing licenses at Johnny's Fish and Tackle Shop (or Johnny's Sport Shop).

- Pay in cash. Trip will include a 1.5 - 2 mile hike, with lots of altitude and multiple lakes to explore.

- It will be in the wilderness (similar to Henninger Flats). Fishing gear will be free (so you don't need to bring any).

- You need a menu that doesn't rely on Mountain House.

Fishing Merit Badge

- Need Merit Badge materials (workbook, book, blue card, pencil, paper, etc)

- Fill it out

- Catch and release one fish

- Catch, clean, eat one fish

There may be a meeting at Mr. Myers' house on 9th, to plan more. Plan to finalize menu, fishing rods, and tents on the 16th.

Where: Dinkey Lakes.

When: Leave on the 24th and come back on the 27th at around dinner time.

Why: Fishing trips are awesome!

Emerald Bay Meeting on Monday, November 14!

On Monday, November 14, the troop will be holding a Parent Meeting to discuss upcoming events such as 2017 Summer Camp at Emerald Bay, a Spring Break activity, and other activities. So, parents, when you come to drop off your scout, please stick around for the Parent Meeting.

Firestone Pumpkin Smash Details

The 2nd Annual Great Pumpkin Smash is coming to Firestone Scout Reservation November 21-23! This is a Patrol/Troop Competition Event! 10 events! There will be pumpkin rifle carving, dutch oven a pumpkin recipe competition (bring your award winning dish to enter!), baby pumpkin skeet shooting and pumpkin chucking to name a few. Last year Orange County Council took home the Great Pumpkin Award! Who will take it this year!?!

Cost: Scout - $40 Adults - $40 (with all activities/ Adult Competition) Adults - $15 (no activities) Individual activities can be purchased. Not applicable for adult competition.

The Platinum Award from Emerald Bay 2014

Troop 103 Boy Scouts recently attended a summer camp at Emerald Bay. They had a ton of fun and lived the Scout Law and Oath throughout their days at camp. For consistently keeping their campsite the cleanest out of the whole camp, Troop 103 Boy Scouts received 'The Platinum Award' for their outstanding deed.

New Eagle Cooking Merit Badge

As of January 1, 2014 the Cooking Merit Badge became a mandatory Eagle Merit Badge.

On Monday, January 13, the scouts of Troop 103 and our guest, scouts of 147, had the privilege to be taught the badge by a professional nutritionist. Mary Urtecho-Garcia, the Nutrition and Physical Activity Project Coordinator of Pasadena Public Health Department, began with

a lesson on various harmful infections that can come with food preparation. Through an interactive presentation with questions, the scouts began learning about how to ensure safe food conditions. Mrs. Urtecho-Garcia is scheduled to teach on January 27th and February 24th. Our scouts will do hands-on cooking for requirements 4 & 6, March 3rd and 10th during our regular troop meeting.

Cub Scout Campout

To all Webelos and their parents,

Troop 103-Arcadia invites you to join us for a Webelos Overnight Campout in Monrovia Canyon Park on Saturday January 18th 12 noon to Sunday at 11:00a.m. This is the perfect time for a Webelos to visit a Boy Scout troop prior to bridging. We'll be having lots of fun and demonstrate what a Webelos should expect in a Boy Scout Troop. Some of the highlights are; guided tours of the Nature Center and hike to Monrovia Falls, learning how to boil water in a paper cup, tie paracord bracelets, cook an omelet in a plastic bag, 1-match fire starting event, dutch oven dessert, skits, orienteering and more!

Troop 103 was started by the Rotary Club of Arcadia in 1929. It's a medium size troop with a very high Eagle rank achievement rate. Troop 103 specializes in outdoor adventure. Newly Elected Scout Leaders

Scout Leader candidates delivered their election speech last Monday and last night. In their speech, they each briefly introduced themselves, explained why they ran for their desired leader positions, and answered questions from their scout fellows.

When Mr. Geer announced the election result, all candidates couldn't help cheering for their victory. They sworn in right after the election result was declared.
