Scouts' Testimony

On my first backpacking trip, we were going to hike 3 miles with 25 pounds on our back over hills, and camp at Valley Forge, a nice campsite with a river next to it. When we arrived, we got bombarded with waves of bugs, and mosquitoes. We set up camp, and played games
until dinner. By now, we just ignored the bugs because they weren't giving us any trouble, yet. My fellow Scouts and I headed down to the river, to use our filters to get some clean water to boil and add to our freeze dried food that we had brought along. When we reached the river however, loads more bugs were there, and eggs on the water's surface. We picked a clear spot, free of bug eggs, and began to filter our water. We had dinner, made a campfire, and went to bed. Luckily, I had taken a nap before and killed the 5 or so mosquitoes before dozing off.
In the morning, my fellow scout Nico had red, bumpy bug bites on his legs. As the Boy Scout motto says, be prepared. I was prepared, armed with my bug spray and sprayed myself. We hiked back up, and soon after, I discovered that I had quite a few bug bites myself. When I got back to civilization, I counted my bug bites just to see how many I had gotten. I got 102 bug bites, and yet I still like Scouting. Yes, I couldn't stop scratching for 2 weeks and I was constantly bleeding from my uncontrollable urge to scratch. But Scouting is fun, and getting bitten was just part of the experience.
