Troop Committee

The Troop Committee exists to promote and support the BSA approved program as implemented by the Green Bar, and to support the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters as they work with the Scouts. This may include transportation, fund-raising, equipment and supervision, as mandated by policy of the BSA.

Committee Chairperson

    • Promotes and ensures all Troop personnel to uphold the PURPOSE OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA as outlined in the volunteer leaders' application.

    • Maintains a relationship with the Chartered Organization.

    • Approves all adult personnel, except the Chartered Organization Representative. Schedules and chairs regular Troop Committee meetings.

    • Supervises and motivates members of the Troop Committee, and notifies them of the proper training dates, offered by Council, for their position.

    • Commissions yearly a nominating Committee to replace vacant, or reaffirm established, Committee positions.

    • Makes sure any vacated Committee position is filled by appointment. Communicates regularly with Chartered Organization Representative. Oversees rechartering, fund-raising, and training.

Treasurer

    • Maintains Troop funds, including but not limited to, bank checking and savings accounts, rechartering funds, registration and Boys Life, camp registrations, scout shop account, equipment, and special event funds.

    • Monthly or Quarterly reports should be submitted to the Troop Committee at the regular meetings and, as approved, kept in the Troop permanent record file.

    • Submit a yearly budget plan for awards, Courts of Honor, equipment, and scholarships, for presentation to the Troop Committee, and as approved, the Chartered Organization.

Secretary

    • Provides any needed communication, i.e., letters of request, or invitations to the Chartered Organization, Troop newsletters, flyers, rosters, and calendars.

    • Advises and supervises the Troop scribe.

    • Assists in rechartering.

    • Maintains Troop permanent record file.

    • Notifies local media of important Troop activities, awards, and service.

Advancement Chairperson

    • Maintains advancement and awards records for the Troop.

    • May keep service time, camping attendance, etc., at Troop request. (Should encourage Scouts to keep own records, both of rank, camping nights and service time.)

    • Needs to keep up to date on availability of special awards and event patches, and their correct uniform or civilian placement.

    • Files advancement reports and tour permits with district.

    • Procures necessary awards for Scout presentations at Courts of Honor.

Board of Review Chairperson

    • Procures appropriate and knowledgeable members to sit on Rank advancement Boards of Review.

    • It is advised the board convene on a set time schedule (i.e. first Wed, 6:30PM), by appointment. This encourages the Scouts to think ahead for an appointment, instead of forcing the board to hold many meetings right before a Court of Honor. However, boards may be scheduled by appointment at the convenience of the review chair.

Committee Members at Large

    • May have no specific duties and sit as extra member advisors.

    • May have specific seasonal duties (Fund-raising, SME, Expo, Popcorn) and chair specific subcommittees.
